Coming Up: August Weekend of Words and Fall Storefront Schedule!
Bend, OR. August 11, 2010. The Nature of Words invites writers ages 11 to 13 to WOW (Weekend of Words) on Friday and Saturday, August 20 and 21 at its literary arts center, 224 NW Oregon Ave. in Bend. Participants will write and illustrate a story based on a theme of “Monsters”, and leave with a bound book of the group’s masterpiece, complete with their own photo. WOW runs from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day and costs $25 per person. At The Storefront Project, NOW’s free drop-in creative writing workshop venue for middle- and high-schoolers, instructor Jamie Houghton is teaching fiction writing throughout August. The fall schedule kicks off in September with “How to Write a Novel” taught by Helen Vandervort, who has published two novels. In October, teacher Cassie Moore will instruct students in poetry, specializing in humor and performance. November brings teacher John Mounts, who will lead sessions in poetry writing. The Storefront Project workshops are available Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Advance registration is not required for these Storefront workshops. All workshops are held at NOW’s literary arts center at 224 NW Oregon Ave. in downtown Bend.
