Mondays and Thursdays - The Storefront Project. These popular drop-in creative writing workshops continue each month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

January 17 - February 21, 2012: The Story You Came To Tell with instructor Ellen Waterston, Six consecutive Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m.. Reception February 23.  Register through COCC Community Learning at http://noncredit.cocc.edu/ or call 541-383-7270. Cost of the class is $289.

January 19 - February 23, 2012: Zen/Taoist Haiku (Level II) with instructor Jeb Barton. Five Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at NOW's Literary Arts Center, 224 NW Oregon Ave., Bend. No class February 9.

January 25: Joint reception with reading by author Ellen Waterston from latest book, "Cold Snap," and Art Exhibit hosted by Artist John Hillmer. Reception begins at 6:00 p.m. Waterston will read at 7:00 p.m.

February 16: Crook County High School Student Reading, 6:30 p.m., Crook County High School Auditorium, Prineville.

February 24: The Shepherd's House Writers Reading, 7:30 p.m., NOW's Literary Arts Center, 224 NW Oregon Ave., Bend.

March 1: Bill Baber and Jarold Ramsey Reading, 6:00-8:00 p.m., The Nature of Words, 224 NW Oregon Ave., Bend.

March 10: Rising Star Creative Writing Competition submission deadline.

June 28, 2012: BOOKPLATE, The Nature of Words' annual guest author announcement and literary arts-themed auction.

October 4: SpeakNOW Spoken Word Competition, PoetHouse, Bend.

November 7-11, 2012: The Nature of Words eighth annual literary festival.
